Support to Study

QV supports and assists employees to take part in educational courses to develop their roles and further their careers within QV. QV has a program to assist with course costs and offers paid study leave to attend lectures and prepare for and attend exams.

Future Leaders

The Future Leaders programme represents QV’s commitment to developing our employees. This programme is for QV people who show great potential to be future leaders in the organisation. Workshops, such as leadership, marketing and communications and finance, lead towards a major task that is presented to QV’s Executive team.Our new company intranet is one of the organisation-wide initiatives that have come out of the Future Leaders programme.

Graduate Programme

The graduate programme is aimed at providing graduates with a well-rounded and supportive entry to the world of property valuing. We can offer you wide-ranging valuation experiences, guidance from business mentors and support to gain registration.

What can I expect as part of the Graduate Programme?

A complete introduction to QV, its systems and work processes.

  • Development and fine-tuning of your valuation skills, through valuing a range of property types for a variety of purposes.
  • Support to develop your portfolio of valuation reports that you can use to apply for your registration.
  • Work opportunities in varied locations that will challenge you and extend your knowledge of the New Zealand property market.

QV Group Scholarship Programme

Every year outstanding full-time undergraduate property students can apply to join QV Group’s scholarship programme. The programme recognises and rewards students who are:

  • Full-time undergraduate students excelling in their Valuation and Property Management or Rural Valuation studies at Lincoln, Massey or Auckland universities
  • Accepted for their final year of study
  • Successful in activities outside of university and can provide evidence of this
  • Seeking a career in property valuation and intending to become a registered Valuer
  • Eligible and flexible to work in NZ or Australia at the completion of their studies
  • Positive about the opportunities QV and Darroch Limited can offer them.
  • Happy to be included in any promotions of scholarship programme.

If you are awarded a scholarship you’ll be awarded:

  • A grant of up to $3,500 to help pay for your final-year university fees.
  • An assigned mentor for your final year of study
  • Work experience opportunities during your final year of study
  • Employment with the QV Group as part of our graduate programme at the completion of their studies.

How do I become a valuer?

At secondary school the best subjects to take for a career in property are mathematics, english, accounting and economics. You can talk to your school careers advisor or go to the CareersNZ website for more information.

 

Massey, Lincoln and Auckland Universities offer three-year degrees with a major in valuation and property management. Graduates are eligible to apply for their registered Valuer status and become members of the professional body for property Valuers the Property Institute of New Zealand.

How do I become a registered Valuer?

The Valuers' Registration Board (VRB) is the agency that organises Valuer registration.

 

To apply to become a registered Valuer and for an annual practising license, property graduates must have at least three years' practical work experience before submitting 20 valuation reports to the VRB.

 

You may be able to cross-credit your international property qualification depending on the country you studied in and other factors. For the complete registration details go to the VRB Registration Requirements Manual.
